Just before midnight last night the teams learned all had tested negative and they will play a double-header today to make up one of the two days lost to testing. Game One is still scheduled for 1:10pm Pacific. My guess is Game Two will be around 6.
The Giants are 5 games back of the Padres, who have won six straight, concluding in the 1-6 drubbing they gave the Giants on Thursday night. The Giants will play a two game series with the Padres here in SF on the last weekend of the season. It’s safe to conclude the other of the two postponed games would be played then.
It was to be Jhonnny Cueto vs. Garrett Richards in Game One, but the card for the Padres is all up in the air now as they face the Bums on Monday in a three game series that could decide first place. The Giants are likely to go with Cueto and Gausman today.
The Giants are in a battle for one of the two remaining playoff slots with six other teams. At they moment they would have the 7th slot and face the Braves. They need to take these two to stay relevant. A split puts them at .500 and skating, and might allow them to grab the slot vs. the Bums in Chavez Ravine, but losing both could put them on the cusp of elimination.
The situation in the NL West could not be tighter. The Division-leading Bums just lost two games in a row, one to the lowly Diamondbacks and yesterday to the Astros, whom they face again today. They have lost four of their last six. The Padres now only trail by three games.
We need these wins.
Let’s go Giants!
Beat the Padres
Fry the Friars
Double ’em up in the win column on one fine Sunday!
