There was no travel day for the Giants who are playing their seventh game in a row, but that’s no excuse for FOUR errors.
I’d say Bob Melvin sent out a group for game one that allows him the best chance to win both series in Chicago and Minnesota
Luis Matos gave Mike Yasztremski a night off, played right field in Chicago tonight and homered again. His two-run blast tied this one 2-2, in the 4th.
Matos continues to prove his value as a utility man. He reliably substitutes for Jung Hoo Lee in center, Heliot Ramos in left, and for Mike in right.
Christian Koss and David Villar got to play 2nd and 1st, and made no errors. Villar and Patrick Bailey each had a single from.the bottom of the order. But the Giants couldn’t get them in.
Willy Adames had an error tonight in the first inning, but it was immaterial. Matt Chapman had two. No rest day before travel.
BoMel left Birdsong out there to eat innings after the rough start.
Landon Roupp and Hayden Birdsong were beaten up by the Cubs, giving up nine total runs l, (two earned, each).
Spencer Bivens started a bit rocky but held the last three innings of this one, giving up just two hits, a good performance.
We’ll get them tomorrow, boys.
