Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Logan Webb went at it for five scoreless innings at Chavez Ravine in Los Angeles Thursday night.
The Giants chased Yamamoto in the 6th, while Webby threw seven strong, registering strike outs of Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddy Freeman, Michael Conforto and Andy Pages.
This was a tense, taut battle between age-old foes. It was an error by Patrick Bailey on an infield hit that plated the first run of this game. Freddie Freeman singled in Ohtani for their second, and game-winning run.
The Giants scrapped and scored on a walk with the bases loaded, but could do no more damage.
Lucchesi held the 8th, despite giving up the second of Ohtani’s doubles. Ohtani ripped two massive doubles to dead center in this one and crossed the plate once, but had no RBIs.
Alex Vesia came in for the Dodgers and got the save, striking out Drew Gilbert and Jerar Encarnacion and inducing a fly out from Heliot Ramos.
Sigh.
That’s it. We’re cooked.
