Webb vs Ohtani II in this game was encouraging because he struck him out after giving up the long home run to the nets at dead center, longest by a Dodger this year, in the previous AB.
The Giants walked Ohtani in critical situations during the pitchers’ duel on Friday night between Yamamoto and Verlander. Tonight Webb stood up to him. Result: one massive dinger and one K.
But Webb set the Bums up in the 5th by loading them with two walks and a single, nobody out.
The Dodgers offense flipped a switch against reliever José Butto and made the Giants look like a fourth-place finisher in the NL West – spray hitting them where they weren’t, just out of reach or lining ’em to empty green.
But to their credit the Giants responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame.
Cappy Chappy, Matt Chapman, doubled to lead it off. The bottom of the order responded and Jerar Encarnacion got much needed ABs after a long absence.

Rubber match today.
Beat LA.

They chased Webb from his start in the 5th last night when Logan walked two batters and gave up a single to load the bases with nobody out. Bob Melvin knew he didn’t have it after 97 pitches. The Dodgers then blew up José Butto. […]
