Rookie Carson Seymour Gets First Start to Continue Giants Run at the Wildcard in St. Louis

There are 22 games left, the Giants are (71 – 69), four games back of the second wildcard (WC) and seven back of the NL West Division lead with seven to play against the Division leaders, who were swept by the Pirates this week.

The help we need is that the Padres should lose. Everything else is in our hands.

We must win 86 games, and beat programs trying to take the WC from us. We need 15 of the last 22.

It starts tonight in St. Louis with rookie reliever Carson Seymour on the mound. 6’6″ 255, righty. It will probably be a “bullpen game.”

Carson Seymour was promoted because Sean Hjelle was consistently bad in July and August and was demoted. He gets his first ever major league start because Hayden Birdsong was also demoted.

Birdsong may have been exhausted. He had a good rookie season, lost games not because of his own doing, and fell off as the demands of a major league schedule hit him. He will be a starter in this league.

As this season ends, the aggressive moves made by Posey and Minasian and staff have proven to be net positive.

The bats are finally coming alive. It remains to be seen if this is just another late-season flash in the pan or a lineup of solid gold.

The Cards (70  – 71) are starting Michael McGreevy, who is 6 – 2 in eleven starts with a 4.17 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. The Cards back him. We have to continue hitting to win tonight.
