Sigh. The Giants went 1 for 9 with RISP today leaving ten men on base. They managed three runs, but only one in each of the previous two games.
The Tigers are one of the best teams in baseball, and the Giants showed competitiveness from the mound in the series – all these games were within reach. But they just couldn’t score.
Starting pitching is now amidst a shuffle. With Justin Verlander taking a break for oldness and Jordan Hicks demoted for unreliable opening innings, Kyle Harrison, Hayden Birdsong and Landon Roupp, are becoming major league starters before our eyes.
Roupp took the L today despite giving up only one earned run over four innings, and falls to (3-4). Sigh. We need hits, baby, hits and runs. Again. Or as usual.
As far as our primary starters, Robbie Ray (7-0) has been excellent. But Logan Webb has not looked like his usual dominant self.
Webb has lost consecutive outings to fall to (5-5). The two-seamer seems off and Logan has looked lost seeking it. I saw him throw a meatball right over the plate with that slider against the Diamondbacks that was driven to deep left for a dinger. Something’s not right with the “Strikeout God.”
The bullpen has been consistent and remains our strongest suit. The Giants bullpen leads the majors with a team ERA of just 2.48. They’re the ones keeping us in all these games.
Well. I guess it’s same shit different year. We can’t hit.
We need a sweep in Miami now to return home with a winning record on the road trip.
Let’s Go Giants!
