Hicks Starts Well, Implodes in 6th, Chapman Slam Saves Him, Camilo, Erik and Ryan Wrap It Up; Giants 6, Rockies 3

It was a good start that slipped away in the 6th for Hicks, a more traditional place to put the blow up.

Luis Matos, in at DH to give Wilmer Flores a rest, gave the Giants the lead with a solo shot in the 3rd. Hicks held the Rockies scoreless for five then opened the 6th with a lead off walk and two singles.

The pitch that drove Verlander from the game in the 6th on Thursday was  his four-seamer right in the middle of the plate at 91mph to Ryan McMahon. Hicks took a more elaborate approach.

Hicks gave up a single to McMahon, whose bat has awoken thanks to that meatball from JV (He should send Kate and Justin a bottle of wine). It was an impressive hit on the two-seamer inside, though. Legit.

Randy Rodriguez wasn’t The Wall today, sadly, and all three of Hicks’ runs were earned. But Rodriguez got out of the inning without allowing more.

Then the Giants drew walks and moved guys over to allow Chappy to blow it up with the grand slam in the bottom of the 6th that bailed Jordan Hicks out and got Randy Rodriguez the win.

Erik Miller, Camilo Doval and Ryan Walker were clean. A solid win. But ND for Hicks.

Grand salami for Cappy Chappy!

RBI for Jung Hoo Lee!
