Another Verlander No-Decision as Giants Lose at Home to Worst Team in Baseball; Rockies 4, Giants 3

Justin Verlander was fine. He pitched six and a third and gave up five hits, two runs and a base on balls.

He left the game with a one run lead after giving up a home run to Rockies 3B Ryan McMahon.

McMahon was in an 0 for 35 slump prior to crushing that one to dead center at Oracle. He was due. He took all his early season frustration out on JV’s 91 mph four-seamer right in the middle of the plate.

The velocity is nowhere near what it was when Verlander challenged guys in late innings in the past. McMahon hijacked it

Still, It was 3 – 2 Giants.

Camilo Doval came in and got the remaining two outs of the 7th, comfortably – a good sign.

But then the Giants’ bats were held in check by the Rockies ‘pen.

Tyler Rogers came in for the 8th, blew the save and took the loss, allowing three hits and two more earned runs. The Rockies led 4 – 3.

Randy Rodriguez held the 9th, but not without giving up his first walk of the season, which was unusual.

But the damage had been done. Justin Verlander has yet to register a win this season. Giants bats are inconsistent.

The Rockies won back to back on the road against the Braves and us, facing two former Cy Young Award winners in Chris Sale and Justin Verlander, though they are 6 – 25.

That’s Spring ball.

Our offense did very little tonight. Heliot Ramos homered. Wilmer Flores and Mike Yasztremski doubled in runs. It should have been enough, but the usually reliable Tyler Rogers got tagged.

Sigh.
