Landon Roupp was a shining star on the mound in Anaheim tonight.
Sure, he gave up two solo home runs, but those were to Mike Trout, and two of the hardest hit baseballs by anyone this entire season. Sometimes you just can’t deny Mike Trout.
Otherwise Roupp controlled the Angels lineup, hurling a career high nine strikeouts.
Outside of the two solo shots to Trout in the 4th and 6th, Roup allowed just three hits to other Angels over seven innings, and gave up only one base on balls. It was an efficient, commanding 96-pitch performance.
Landon Roupp is in the Show to stay.
Matt Chapman knocked in Willy Adames on a two-run homer in the 1st. Adames added an RBI single in the 3rd, scoring Yasztremski, who had walked. Just enough to stay ahead of Mike Trout.
Tyler Rogers held with a perfect 8th.
In the bottom of the 9th, Ryan Walker had to face Trout as the leadoff batter in a one run game. He took him to a full count, and Trout smashed another high, deep fly ball … but it was caught at the warning track by Jung Hoo Lee. Whew. It was eight feet from being a Walk-off third homer for Trout.
Then Walker got in trouble. He gave up a single to Jorge Soler. Logan O’Hoppe then hit a grounder to third and Matt Chapman charged it going left, but slipped and fell on the dirt, and yet still made the throw from his knees to first for the out. INCREDIBLE defensive play.
Caught my breath. It was a STUNNING throw, after having fallen down! Wow
Walker got Nolan Schanuel to fly out to center to end the game and earn his fifth save.
Way to go, Landon Roupp!
Thanks for leading from the front, as usual, Cap’n Chappy!
