Robbie Ray had a decent first outing, pitching five scoreless, with four strikeouts. But he started the 6th giving up his only walk, followed by back-to-back home runs, yielding three earned runs, and left the mound after 78 pitches (46 strikes), with a one-run lead: Giants 4, Reds 3.
Giants hit well to get those four runs. Matt Chapman and Heliot Ramos homered. Jung Ho Lee was two for four with an RBI, scoring twice himself. Tyler Fitzgerald was also two for four.
The Giants took bases and played small ball to advance the lead. Tyler Fitzgerald was moved over by a good bunt by Wade, Jr., took third on a reviewed face-first steal and came home in the top of the eighth on a Willy Adames sacrifice. Giants 6, Reds 3.
Matt Chapman was brilliant defensively all day even before his unassisted double play ended the eighth. Chapman once again led from the front, bolstering the argument he should be named Captain.
Camilo Doval struck out Elly de la Cruz to start the ninth. Heliot Ramos made a diving catch for the second out and Doval induced a no-muss, no fuss grounder to 2nd for the final out of the game.
A win for Robbie Ray, a Save for Camilo Doval and holds for Erik Miller, Lou Trivino and Tyler Rodgers.
This was a good, complete win.
