It was a brilliantly sunny day at the yard Saturday as we gathered before the game to celebrate the 2014 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants. Because I am not on any social media and I don’t listen to KNBwRong or watch any talking heads on NBCbullshitBayArea, my enjoyment of such things is filled with surprises. I had no idea Madison Bumgarner was attending and it was so great to see and hear from him.
What MadBum did in the 2014 World Series can never be forgotten. He pitched more innings than any World Series starting pitcher with three or more World Series appearances and maintained the lowest ERA for any of them – lower than Sandy Koufax. He came on in relief for five innings in Game Seven and shut the Royals down. It was one for the ages. He was named Sportsman of the Year by Sports Illustrated.
Buster Posey, Madison Bumgarner, Yusmeiro Petit, Joe Panik, Travis Ishikawa, Sergio Romo, Jeremy Affeldt, Javier Lopez, Brandon Belt, Jean Machi, Gary Brown, J C Gutierrez, and coaches Dave Righetti, Ron Wotus, Tim Flannery and others were all present. Bruce Bochy sent a hilarious and heart-warming video message. We missed Brandon Crawford. But it was an excellent celebration of the 2014 Champs.
